There has been a recent spate of Panchayats collecting taxes in Bengal. It is a new tax that few have heard off. It appears as a notification one fine day and one has to pay four years taxes in one go!!!
The rates for the tax calculations are not clearly defined and if one finds it very hard to pay these taxes then one can simply approach the local TMC leader, pay the "ask" amount and the tax burden lightens substantially.
This is still a very hush - hush affair which is being talked about in local circles. The media and political parties are yet to bring notice to this scam in the making.
