Muslims converted to Hinduism in Agra, the former Mughal capital. This of course had all the "secular" parties in an uproar in Parliament.
But when Hindus are incentivized to covert to Christianity or to Islam or to Buddhism, then it seems to be all ok. But a reverse, does one even dare ask? It become unsecular!!!
The Indian constitution has settled the debate and the law is clear. Article 25 gives all Indians “freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion.”
India is unusual on the subcontinent in having such a liberal law on religion and the opposition should keep that in mind when it attacks the government on this issue.
It should not allow an incident to become the reason to relook at the law.
