Didi's confusion : Managers or Damagers? (Part 1)

Anubrata Mandal, also known as Kesto, born in Birbhum in 1960s, politician and the current president of the Birbhum district Trinamool Congress. Mandal became embroiled in political controversy at the time the Trinamool Congress came to power. During the panchayat elections of July 2013, he publicly encouraged Trinamool supporters to hurl bombs at the police and burn down the houses of independent candidates. Less than a week after Mandal made that speech, independent candidate Sagar Ghosh was shot and killed at his home in the village of Parui; the victim's family claimed that Mandal was involved.

The Chief Minister, came to his rescue and callied him “an efficient organizer” and vowed to “defend him to the end” and also said, “Kesto has hypoxia for which he has to carry oxygen with him”!! Since then he is popularly known as “Oxygen Kesto”. Controversy seems to be another name of Kesto, he again landed in controversy in November 2013 at Katwa when he said, "If anyone threatens Trinamool supporters, then our workers will also attack their houses at night" and threatened to chop off the hand of Indian National Congress candidate!! His hide-n-seek game with Mr Sudhir Kumar Rakesh, Election Commission Observer, during 2014 Lok Sabha Poll made him the blue-eyed boy of Didi. His favourite dialogue is “law will take its own course”(aain aainer moton cholbe!!)

Monirul Islam, aged 54, is MLA from Labpur constituency and will you believe he has 8 criminal cases pending against him!! No, not joking, the details are as given below:

Monirul publicly threatened to behead Bapi Dutta, a Congress leader from Birbhum district and also claimed that he has killed 3 brothers with the sole of his feet!! Still Ms Banerjee shares the same dais with these guys.

Arabul Islam, aged 47, politician of Trinamool Congress Party, is one of the renowned and dependable TMC leaders in Bhangar area of West Bengal. He won from Bhangar Constituency in 2006 and lost in 2011.

Educational Qualification Madhyamik (10^th Standard) but was President of Governing body of Bhangar College!! He even threw a jug to hit the Principal of Bhangar College, who happened to be a lady, in a governing body meeting, which stunned entire West Bengal. Later he attacked Razzak Molla, a veteran CPI(M) leader, and Molla was hospitalized for 15 days!! Amazingly this member of Didi’s managerial group has 8 criminal cases pending against him too! In a recent shootout event at Bhangar area he and his aides were main accused. TMC party had no other option, suspended him for a term of 6 years!

Kalyan Banerjee, born on 4^th Jan 1957, at Asansol is key player in TMC. Advocate, Kolkata High Court since 1981; designated senior advocate, Kolkata High Court, 2004; and senior advocate of Group 1 of Central Government from 1998-2004; practicing also at Supreme Court of India. Banerjee was Vice-President, West Bengal Youth Congress from 1991-1997; General Secretary, West Bengal Trinamool Congress in 1998; Member, West Bengal Legislative Assembly form 2001-2006; Vice-President, All India Trinamool Congress from 2007-09; Elected in 15^th & 16^th Lok Sabha from Serampur Constituency in 2009 and 2014 respectively. Kalyan Banerjee contributed to plethora of legal initiatives like (i) Rizwanur Rahman Case (ii) Nandigram Matter (iii) Kolkata Book Fair Matter (iv) Chhota Angaria Case (v) Bhikari Paswan Case and (vi) Imposition of Sec-144 in Singur.

Though having reputed credentials, he was not a well-known face in West Bengal politics, until his candidature in 2009 from Serampore constituency in 15^th Lok Sabha Poll. He appeared for an interview in a Bengali TV Channel during his election campaign in 2009 and verbally attacked Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. He even told that Buddhadeb spends his evening at Nandan Complex with female buddies, over Scotch. He also said in that interview that he will carry Buddhadev’s chappal on his head if his victory margin is less than 1 Lakh votes. This interview brought him to limelight overnight! After 2011, with TMC in power in West Bengal, he started pleading for Govt. of West Bengal in court and lost almost all the cases he fought! Major cases were (i) PIL for CBI enquiry in Saradha Scam (ii) TATA Singur Land Case lost in Kolkata High Court and now pending at Supreme Court (iii) Parui Case, lost in Single bench of Kolkata High Court and won in Division Bench of same court and many more. He is famous for his loose-talks. During 2014 Lok Sabha Polls he verbally abused Bappi Lahiri, BJP candidate, which Mr Lahiri complained to Election Commission. Recently he also attacked PM Narendra Modi and ex-PM Late Lal Bahadur Shastri from a party meeting at Domjur and was forced to apologise in Parliament!!

 

Sonali Guha, aged 44, a Graduate, is one of the old warriors of Ms Bannerjee. She was in headlines in 2006 when Ms Banerjee was staging fasting dharna at Metro Channel for 25 days, she was found shopping at Puri! She is MLA from Satgachia (Jyoti Basu’s constituency) of South 24 Parganas. She has won 3 terms 2001, 2006 and 2011 from Satgachia. Sonali, an aggressive lady, is leading female leader in Trinamool Congress after Ms Banerjee. She has 2 criminal cases pending against her!! She was again in headlines 2011 when she went to a Police station in Kolkata threatened an Officer in Charge and said “you swine! I will tear off your tongue!” This video went viral in all Bengali TV Channels. She was appointed as Dy Speaker of WB Legislative Assembly, in 2011, when TMC formed Government in West Bengal.

She was again in headlines in 2014, this lady is such a nut that she staged dharna at CGO Complex, Saltlake, against CBI enquiry against Saradha scam, forgetting her post of Dy Speaker, which doesn’t allow her to do so! Such a dynamic lady and how long she could be away from headlines? Again hit headlines on December 11^th, 2014! She went all the way from College Street, her residence, to Howrah at 1:30 am and threatened an Homeopathy Doctor that she will evict him from his residence and uttered three historical dialogues, “… koi baap ka aulaad tumko kaise bachayga dekhenge hum ….”, “ I am the man of Chief Minister” and lastly the ultimate one “I am the Government”.
