To the Unsung Karyakarta : BJP in Bengal (1985-95)

This post is a homage to the efforts of numerous BJP workers and RSS Karyakartas who worked for the cause of the organization under very hostile circumstances over a ten year period between 1985-1995.

This post is not a chronology of facts of the decade that I mention , it is some interesting perspectives that I gathered from my husband Niladri who was himself a BJP supporter, an observer of Bengal politics and also a worker with the party during this period.

The period that I am talking was an era of absolute stranglehold of the Left Front in Bengal . This stranglehold on every aspect of civil society which was  largely causal to the intellectual and moral decay of Bengal .

The frontal organizations of the CPIM (ABTA , DYFI , SFI , CITU et al ),had a total monopoly over education , labor and the so called intelligentsia of the state. The state technically was politically bipolar, which meant a direct political contest between the INC and the Left , however on the ground , beyond the city of Calcutta , INC had limited presence , barring an ABA Gani Khan Chaudhuri who was the only credible source of resistance outside Calcutta to the Left juggernaut . The Red cadre tolerated no dissent and treated anybody who had divergent political views as enemies , something many years later Mamata Banerjee seems to have replicated . Atrocities on opposition workers were never reported (partly because of a complete black out of the press and party due to the lack of social media or internet as a medium of protest)

In this context a few brave hearts attempted to break the stranglehold by holding their ideals dear to their lives. These brave hearts were ordinary workers of the party and the RSS. Jeered continuously and socially ostracized these young men and women took it on themselves to build the party in the land of its founders. RSS sakhas were stoned by CPM men ,pracharakswere not allowed to function but the band of merry men would not vacate their post

In this context it is important to recognize the pathological block of the Bengali intellectual towards what he or she brands as communal politics and identified the Sanghparivar as a protagonist of the same . Groups of ill- informed men spend hours debating on the rise of the proletariat in their addas across Bengal , eulogizing the icons of the Left who were engaged in destroying the work culture and industry in Bengal , leaving the average Bengali jobless . Industries were made unviable and the militant CITU under the garb of championing worker rights destroyed all industries worth mentioning

The Elections of 1989

The General Elections of 1989 was a very special moment for Niladri. He campaigned as a worker in Calcutta and other parts of Bengal. Threatened by CPM goons and jeered by Leftist intellectuals he held his ground and passionately recounted to me what he calls electoral success in Bengal in two seats:Jangipur where Dhananoy Das polled 11/5 % and the famous Shantilal Jain polling 7.4% in Calcutta North West. When he used to narrate this instances to me after our marriage I would find these stats hilarious, how could somebody take pride in being member of an also ran party.

Little did I realise that in the context of Bengal politics , it was indeed a material development 

The Party and Its challenges

The challenge of the growth and the consequential electoral success of the party had nothing to do with the agenda of the people who ran the party. It had more to do with the social fabric of Bengal , which had erroneously lead itself to believe that its emancipating lay in agitating against “something” , often this “something” was the Centre and its policies . A culture of agitationist politics had become part of Bengals psyche. This automatically lead to externalizing its problems and the ability to reflect and grow as people was consequently stunted. The death of Bengal had truly set in …..the world had moved on , Communism had been dealt a death blow by multiple people movements across Europe , but Bengal was unmoved .

A social paralysis of this kind could not be broken through in any meaningful way , and the party continued to languish politically . In the surface of it BJP in Bengal did not exist, its obituary had been written multiple times over …..in these troubled times , our brave hearts held the fort and convinced themselves and the motley group of supporters that “Acche Din” would come to Bengal .

I salute those unnamed men and women who held their own , when there was no chance for the party to see political power in the foreseeable future .It is their guts and gumption that has taken us thus far and will bear political fruit in 2016 

In conclusion

Niladri left Bengal in 1996 and has since been disassociated from mainstream politics  ( though he plans to join the party back soon ..) he had one wish for his homestate , a Bengal free of the Communists , Mamata delivered it to him , but to his dismay she delivered something equally grotesque . He believes that the time for the BJP in Bengal has truly come and prays for its success, in doing so he fondly remembers his fellow workers who kept the saffron flag flying for decades

Bihar bypolls - Key points :

In the desperation to stop BJP,or it may be said in the fear of progress in popularity of Shri Narendra Modi Nitish joined hand with his Rivals RJD & Congress. Nitish got the mandate in the last assembly election against both of his allies. But the result describes differently.It shows from No. 1 party in Bihar JDU slipped to No. 3 party. God knows how many seats Lalu & Nitish would keep for themselves in the coming election & how Congress will survive in the negotiation. In an attempt to check BJP Nitish & Congress pushed themselves in the path of destruction & made Lalu a better Hero than Zero. The alliance with leader of "Jungle Raj" which Nitish termed against RJD in last election is evident though in statistics.Altogether 6882 incident of Murders reported in Bihar in 2013. However, according to the result of by polls of 10 Assembly seats of Bihar BJP got 4 seats,RJD got 3, JD(U) got 2 & Congress got one.People wonders if Lalu will claim CM post. So as per result of 10 bypoll result party situation in Bihar Look like this.

With the time Congress is going through it is certain Congress has no power to slap anybody with their "Hand" but knowing Nitish can shoot an "Arrow" to break the "Lantern" Bihar is keen to see that. However as a resident of Bengal it is good indication perhaps.Return of Lalu will provoke many Criminals return to Bihar from Bengal.

However Independent analysts see the result of this by election differently.

1. BJP won all three seats in which it was trailing during LS polls.BJP could retain only one of seven seats in which it was leading during LS polls.Overall, it was random trend with little correlation with LS elections.But losing stronghold like Bhagalpur is a setback for BJP.

2.Polling percentage was 10-12% less than LS polls. People were less enthusiastic as these polls were not going to impact them.In general, BJP performs better in high percentage elections. Results can definitely be different in an serious election.

3.The result will create fear of "Return of Lalu" which is sufficient for high voting among pro-development masses in favour of BJP. This result also bring BJP workers and supporters out of comfort zone. This will have same impact as victory of AAP in 28 Delhi seats had.This result will also force JDU & RJD to remain together.. which will father benefit BJP.

4. Generally, bypolls results don’t have much to with final elections. In 2009, LS elections, BJP+JDU had won 32/40 seats. But could win only 5/18 assembly seats in bypoll after LS. And in Assembly polls, BJP+JDU came back with 3/4 majority.

5.BJP is still in good position in Bihar and should work hard rather than accepting that they have been defeated. It was neck-to-neck competition and not one-sided as projected by media.

Driving TATA out of Bengal: A historic blunder

While some powerful people of the current regime in Bengal were take pride of doing TA-TA to TATA I was wondering who is the actual looser in this game and what the side effects of such a mis adventure are. I am also critical of the earlier regime because the Singur mess occurred primarily due to their faulty land policy. The State Govt. should have a land policy like Gujarat which is proven to be highly successful and well appreciated.

 Let us go through some Fact Sheet. Tata Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate which has operations in more than 80 countries across six continents. Tata Group has over 100 operating companies with each of them operating independently. Out of them 32 are publicly listed. The major Tata companies are Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata Global Beverages, Tata Teleservices, Titan Industries, Tata Communications and Taj Hotels. The combined market capitalization of all the 32 listed Tata companies was INR 8.2 Trillion ($ 103.27 billion) as of July 2014. Tata receives more than 58% of its revenue from outside India. The Tata Group and its companies & enterprises is perceived to be India's best-known global brand within and outside the country as per an ASSOCHAM survey. The 2009, annual survey by the Reputation Institute ranked Tata Group as the 11th most reputable company in the world. The survey included 600 global companies. The Tata Group has helped establish and finance numerous quality researches, educational and cultural institutes in India. The group was awarded the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy in 2007 in recognition of its long history of philanthropic activities.

Now let us compare Tata’s annual turnover with Bengal’s net state domestic product (NSDP) which is 3.6 Trillion Indian rupees. Tata’s annual turnover of INR 8.2 Trillion is about double of Bengal’s NSDP of INR 3.6 Trillion. We should not also forget the state's total financial debt stood at INR 1.92 trillion (US$32 billion) as of 2011.

TATA is the pride for Brand India and the main pillar for the mission of ‘Made in India’. It has also acquired many foreign companies like Jaguar-Land Rover and Corus to name a few. Tata is also UK's largest private sector employer. To understand how big TATA brand is let me share my own experience that I had in London in 2002. I was working with one UK based IT company and was posted in the country side of Wales. During one long weekend I was visiting London with my wife. I was in search of a value for money Bread and Breakfast hotel accommodation in London. I zeroed in one hotel where the owner asked about my profession. I told that I work in Software – he was not very well versed so I had to tell I work in Computer. He responded ‘’ Do you work for TATA?’’.  It took few seconds for me understood he was referring TCS.  Without further confusing him I lied him and said yes I work for TATA and got the accommodation instantly. TATA has played the instrumental role for India’s IT revolution and later on Wipro, Infosys and others added value to that. After seeing TATA’s onshore-offshore software delivery success story  IBM, Accenture, HP, Microsoft, Google, American Express, RBS and any NCs got attracted to Indian IT talent pool and set up large development centres in India.  

It is common sense that if we could have had a cordial relationship with TATA, Bengal definitely would have got many more investment than of today. TATA would have brought more Industry in Bengal and many other Industry houses would have also invested in Bengal. Unfortunately we have not done that and now looking at Singapore. BTW geographical size wise Singapore is almost same as Calcutta.

Didi went to Singapore with her blue eyed boys including her favourite movie star Paglu but no logical person is expecting any wonder from her visit. Now think about this hypothetical scenario where this TA-TA episode had not happened and just imagine if she could have got Ratan during her Singapore visit along with her in place of Paglu what could have been the impact of such a visit and the outcome. TATA already has a Joint Venture with Singapore Airlines. TATA also exports IT to many Singapore based companies.

I sincerely hope people of Bengal would align them with the Vision of Modi ji and vote for a party which is development focused.  I dream for the day when we would bring back TATA in Bengal along with many other Industry houses towards Industrial revolution in Bengal to make our motherland Sonar Bangla.

Maun"Mohini"

The Mohini Mill was built byone of the famous personality in kushtia Mr.Mohini Mohan chakrabati. He established this garment mills named as kushtia Mohinimills and co. limited in 1908. In running position Mohinimill got recognition the largest garment factory in Asia. Kushthia Now in Bangladesh.As it was once said "Calcutta" is cultural capital of India,Kushthia was said to be cultural capital of undivided Bengal.Lalan Fakir ,Rabindranath Thakur had born in Kushthia.People of all communities learnt how to live with mutual understanding,cooperation & with criticism. Rabindranath taught them how to laugh & sing in tough time. Mohini Mill had long cultural heritage & it is said freedom fighters were helped financially & emotionally by owners & they were emotionally attached to this legendary institution

British Government connected Kushthia with Kolkata with Railway in the early decades 20th century.So Mohini Mills transferred their main unit to Kolkata. Just Beside the Belghoria station,Mohini Mill stood with 90 Bighas of land.n the present context of Kolkata that is the most prime position for buisness,Just beside Railway station & very near to Ganga.

There were 436 looms and 32100 spindles and the total employment at the time of closure stood at about 2079. It was a composite textile mill and its product line included dhotis, long cloth, saris, mosquito nettings, bed sheets, shirting etc. During the time of Naxalites menace gripped the Bengal,fall started.It remained completely closed in 1979 to 1981.It was obvious Left has already arrived in Bengal for populism politics or destructive politics. Instead of helping to grow the great private enterprise they helped taking over by Government.Government took over & handed over to NTC. Once it is Government property you need not to make profit.It is  for helping the party leaders to fill up with party cadres.So that they are secured of Government jobs and work 24 hours for the party.CPI(M) implemented that policy. Finally the said Mill was denotified by default and ceased to be Government of India undertaking with effect from 22 June 1988. The labour friendly government accepted the fact even, after remaining in charge of Mohini Mill for almost 7 long years the management of NTC, a Central Public Sector Undertaking, virtually abandoned and deserted the unit without even declaring closure as per ID&R Act, 1951. 

So,our question is why workers and governments at the centre & state will not be held responsible for brutal disobedience of law of the land & will not be held accountable? In April 1990 the BIFR submitted a report stating that Mohini Mill was not any more in a position to carry out the much-needed modernisation after taking care of the past liabilities. BIFR opined that Rs 17.17 crores would be necessary to revive Mohini Mill.

Since 1988, the workers were left to suffer their plight without any intervention from any quarters. When there was nothing left of anything the Banks stepped in to lay claim to the land on the plea that they were ‘secured’ creditors and Mohini Mill owed them a lot.
Finally the State Government stepped in with aplomb. On 1 September 2003 the mighty Government of West Bengal under "Budhdhu"deb Bhattacharya hung up notices all around that it had ‘resumed’ the land of Mohini Mill. The logic was that once upon a time, this land was made available to the Mohini Mill for constructing the factory. Now that it is closed the West Bengal Government deems it to be fit and proper to take back or resume the land of Mohini Mill in its favour.
"Cultured" Bengal remained quiet as it was done by "Cultured "Budhdhu". But they did not have guts to open other units there as no investors want to come to Bengal. So "Mohini" Brccks came out in the Agarpara area.Each brick of the premises were sold at Rs.2 per brick.After all they had to survive.Entire 90 Bigha land came under lawlessness.
n 3rd December 2001,Somshankar Mukhopadhyay wrote an article in Tmes of India. He wrote "...the unions were also involved in the mess. a top CITU leader, who resides at a stone's throw from the mill, did not bother to prevent the daily pilferage, said the workers, adding that his coffers and that of others like him have increased steadily. about 600 workers, now residing in the mill quarters, are being threatened with eviction by those eyeing the property. what irked the workers most is the fact that no solution emerged from the labour-friendly state government." 

No industry came,politics of left in collaboration of Congress continued. The great traditional company died & leaders laughed they are still laughing as it was the start of "No" Industrialisation of Bengal. Since GOI showed that they can close Factories without obeying law of the land.So others continued to do that as well.

We request the present Government as it respect ndian tradition & values to stop this destruction.It is not too late.

The Fearful“Nirbhaya” Land

When Mr Jyoti Basu became the Chief Minister of West Bengal in 1977, he was a demi-god of Bengal.  He was then a cult figure in Bengal very much comparable to Nehru of 1947. The first few steps taken by Mr Basu was to address the fearful law and order situation prevailing at that time in West Bengal. Together with addressing the law and order and the Land Reforms – ensured a smooth 34 years stint of the Communists in Bengal. With passage of time, corruption, nepotism, incompetency, closure of industries and no development and all such negativities invaded the Communists who were finally thrown out in 2011 by the people of West Bengal.

It’s said that history repeats itself.

When Ms Mamata Banerjee took charge in 2011 – West Bengal was again euphoric. She was, just like Mr Jyoti Basu, perceived as a demi-god. After all she was almost like a one-lady army who threw the all-powerful commis out of power - perhaps once and for all. Everybody hoped for a revival of Bengal and immediate rectification of law and order problem which was fast deteriorating.

Sadly – history repeats itself very fast on this occasion. 

Much faster than anyone could have ever imagined. While Mr Basu addressed the immediate grave concern of Law and Order in 1977, Ms Banerjee’s focus was somewhere else. It’s a different matter although that after 3-years of power, people of Bengal are yet to know where the focus is !

Law and Order is an area where the TMC-run “gobment” failed miserably.

On 7 June 2013, a 20-year-old Hindu girl was abducted, gang-raped and murdered in Kamduni, near Barasat (about 20 km from Kolkata). It was reported that after raping her, the perpetrators tore apart her legs up to the navel, slit her throat and dumped her body into a nearby field.The autopsy report showed that the victim's femur bone was broken into pieces and her private parts were mutilated.The area is notorious for illegal hooch dens frequented by the anti-socials and fishery mafia.Well – not unexpected, a hooch den even used to operate just beside the Barasat II Block Trinamool Congress party office at Kamduni bus stop. Enduring lewd comments by TMC-nurtured goons were a routine affair for women passing through that road. It was later known that middle aged woman was raped in the same factory compound five years ago.

The residents of Kamduni caught hold of Ansar Ali, the prime accused, and handed him over to the police. It is well known that Ansar Ali has close Trinamool Congress links. Of course some senior leaders of TMC have claimed that the accused earlier belonged to the CPM !

While the heinous “Nirbhaya” incidence of Delhi had shaken the entire Country, this incidence of Barasat could only make into the headlines for a few days.

Interestingly the Honourable Lady Chief Minister, known for her rhetoric s and high-pitch drama was conspicuous about her silence on this issue of gruesome rape and murder by her own party goons.

The Rape Saga of TMC-Bengal did not stop after this gruesome incidence. Here are some such barbaric incidences happening in Bengal under TMC :

·         Amta gang-rape case : The two victims, one in her mid-twenties and her mother-in-law were in their home on Tuesday night when eight persons barged in and raped them. The perpetrator - Barun Makhan, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) member, was later arrested.

·         Gang-rape of a 20-year old tribal girl tied to tree allegedly on the orders of a khap panchayat in Birbhum district of West Bengal by 13 men

·         The infamous Madhyamgram rape incidence where a 16 year old daughter of a taxi driver was gang-raped and murdered by setting her on fire

·         Malda, December 2013 : A teenaged girl was allegedly raped and brutally assaulted by a man in Dhantala area of English bazar in West Bengal

·         8-year child raped and murder in East-Midnapore, ……  .

We are stopping here listing this heinous crime. However- there are two things openly coming out of such heinous crime being repeated over and over in West Bengal :

·         The perpetrators enjoys protection from the ruling party, OR

·         Abject Law and Order situation prevailing in West Bengal.

(This is demonstrated in every sphere – may it be attack on Nationalist forces by goons of TMC or abuse/man-handling of commuters by TMC-union run auto-drivers, and so on…..)

Its an irony of irony that West Bengal today is ruled by a Lady Chief Minister.

The new Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi, in his historic address from Lal Quila on the occasion of the occasion of 68^th Independence Day of India, came down heavily on such heinous incidences of rapes. In his address – he declared that the recent surge of rapes and other atrocities on woman have surely ashamed the Nation. Surely the incidences of rapes and murders witnessed in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh evoked concern and compassion in his mind. His sensitivity and concern on this issue have send strong singals to the concerned State Governemnt, including West Bengal,  not to sheild the perpetrators of such heinous act.

Finally we got a Man who is sensitive and is concerned about woman safety – safety for our Mothers, Sisters and Daughters.

Well – needless to mention, this is far beyond the comprehension of the empty election-rhetorics of “Ma-Mati-Manush” of the ruling TMC !

After all - had there been any iota of sensitivity and concern by the ruling party in Bengal on such an heinous act like Rape – it would have been surely been demonstrated by now through administrative action by the Lady Chief Minister after such a long list of rapes and murders in West Bengal.

Unfortunately - there is none.

Bhatiya Janata Party is a party who believes in Nation First,Party Next & self Last
On the Contrary Trinamool Congress who is popularly known in social media as #TollyMoolCongress believes
Supremo first,Muscle next & nation last. They even think state is much bigger than nation,party flag is much above national flag. If you move around Kolkata & Bengal you will not find any national flags in front of party offices or their thousands of affiliated clubs.You will find only TMC flags everywhere. One who has come in Bengal from outside will feel tht 15 th August is celebrated by TMC as their Party day not the Independence day of India.
In this sort of culture prevailing it is understandable that they feel irritated when somebody celebrates Independence day with full vigour & nationalism.
In Konnanagar ward no 4 ,Bharatiya Janata Party has an office at 109 CS Mukherji Road. TMC is losing ground in Bengal in a very fast pace . In comparison to their pace BJP is growing 100 times. People has seen Left oppression for 35 years,now they are seeing TMC is just a mirror of left. In this circumstances,celebration of Independence day at Konnagar drew huge number of local people, which irked TMC workers there.
Flag hosting was done. People remained respectful to the nation,shared thoughts & after a while most of people went home. Hanuman Mondal & few other workers were relaxing outside the party office. Suddenly villains of TMC arrived with surprisingly similarity in names of our villains in screens. Just note few names "Gabbar","Dushtu" "Barun". Immediately they started doing,for which they are paid for. They started abusing,assaulting Hanuman & others. They engaged in vandalising our party office in no time.

Resistance from other side was absolutely nil as all went home."Gabbar" brought more dacoits already.This is what freedom means in Bengal. Freedom means freedom of flexing muscles as power & administration in their side. After some time dacoits left leaving injured Hanuman there.
Workers ran to Konnagar Thana.They refused to file the complaint. You can understand 15 th August is independence day.Policemen were enjoying Holiday.They are not allowed to disturb freedom of "Gabbar"s as well.
Workers ran to Uttarpara PS after getting refused by Konnagar Fnari. But how can they take complaints against masters? workers showed injury of Hanuman even Hospital prescription was shown.

Police can't help us.They only allowed to lodge GD,but not FIR. On the other hand Gabbars reach Konnagar Fnari & lodged complaint against Hanuman.They say Hanuman was possessing Arm. Police was bound to write the complaints,what if hanuman has no adverse record in any PS ?

They returned Home but founds "Gabbar"s are standing in front of all supporters home. "Gabbar"s "peacefully" threatened them,abused them again.
So wonderful 15 th August in Bengal. administration respects freedom of villains,puts full effort to protect them. While the victims can't force a FIR even.
Our question is simple. We have put GD number above,shown complaint letter.We have given Hospital ticket as well.Will administration take the GD as FIR & act against those Villains?

Dr. Abdul Kalam's Letter to Every Indian

(written on 15^th March, 2014)

Why is the media here so negative? Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why? We are the first in milk production. We are number one in Remote sensing satellites. We are the second largest producer of wheat. We are the second largest producer of rice. Look at Dr. Sudarshan (RSS). He has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self-driving unit. There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters. I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news. In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime. Why are we so NEGATIVE?

Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things? We want foreign T.Vs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology. Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India. For her, you and I will have to build this developed India. You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation...YOU say that our government is inefficient. YOU say that our laws are too old. YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage. YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke. The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination. YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits. YOU say, say and say. What do YOU do about it? Take a person on his way to Singapore. Give him a name - 'YOURS'. Give him a face - 'YOURS'. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International best. In Singapore you don't throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores. YOU are as proud of their Underground links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs.. 60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Peddar Road) between 5 PM and 8 PM. YOU come back to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity… In Singapore you don't say anything, DO YOU? YOU wouldn't dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai. YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah. YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds (Rs..650) a month to, 'see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else. 'YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, 'Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so's son. Take your two bucks and get lost.' YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand. Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo? Why don't YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston ??? We are still talking of the same YOU. YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India? In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan. Will the Indian citizen do that here?' He's right. We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility. We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop to pick up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin. We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms. We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity. This applies even to the staff  that is known not to pass on the service to the public. When it comes to burning social issues like those related to women, dowry, girl child! and others, we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse? 'It's the whole system which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my sons' rights to a dowry.' So who's going to change the system? What does a system consist of? Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbors, other households, other cities, other communities and the government. But definitely not me and YOU. When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr. Clean to come along & work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away. Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system. When New York becomes insecure we run to England. When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience is mortgaged to money. Dear Indians, The article is highly thought inductive, calls for a great deal of introspection and pricks one's conscience too….. I am echoing J. F. Kennedy's words to his fellow Americans to relate to Indians…..'ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA AND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY 'Let’s do what India needs from us.

15 th August 1947. Independence got after long bloody battle with Britishers. Khudiram Bose,Prafulla Chaki,Binay,Badal,Dinesh,Masterda Surya Sen gave their lives for the Motherland. There are Thousands of Martyrs who gave away lives but we are particularly mentioning the heroes of Bengal. Bengal is the state where left has ruled for 34 years and India Gandhi family ruled for 60 years. Left Ruled Kerala as well with proper understanding with Gandhis every alternate year.Here In Bengal they have handed over rule with understanding to a party whose name carries "Congress" but workers are originated from Left. So just after coming to power TMC brought Sugata Bose from USA who is brother of Left leader Chandra Bose. Publicly they opposed each other but their motive was same.Motive was humiliate freedom fighters.So Sugata termed Khudiram as "Terrorist" with the help of fellow historian Shirin Masood. Protest erupted all over Bengal. But TMC never bent to listen voice of people,For a eye wash they created a committee headed by the same person who distorted history Prof Sugata Bose,now a MP to review. Ms. Shirin Masood has confirmed though that she has done right thing by calling Khudiram "Terrorist"

Same Sugata Bose and his leftist brother Chandra Bose are now against "Netaji" being given the highest Civilian award . So It is is clear two cousin brothers in real life,TMC Left 2 cousin brothers in politics of Bengal are against Freedom fighters.They are against values of our spiritual leaders like Paramhans Ramkrishna,Swami Vivekananda & Rishi Arabinda Bose.
Can you Imagine that not single official function held yesterday from the Government to celebrate Birthday of Rishi Arabinda . 15 th August was Birthday of our great spiritual leader. Not only spiritual Contribution of him in freedom struggle of India is unforgettable. This neglect of Rishi Arabinda is not happening for the first time.It is happening for the last 40 years. 35 of years of those black days was sponsored by Red terrorism in Bengal. TMC is just following the same thing which their predecessor did.

We are proud that we have a Prime Minister in the name of Shri Narendra Modi ,now. He didn't forget Rishi Arabinda.He paid his respect to our beloved leader of Bengal from Red Fort. He remembered Father of the nation Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi as well. He gave call for "Cleanliness", which was always the main idea of father of nation. He also called for Clean India by 2019 when the nation will celebrate for Father of Nation.

That is the difference of 2 different thought.One wants to disrespect Martyrs of our country who paid life for country.On the other hand Left,TMC & Congress are united for destroying our tradition,values,destroying image of national heroes.

You will be shocked to know,that they are all out to humiliate Bankimchandra Chatterji as well. He wrote Bandemataram song.That one song united the whole nation. Freedom fighters got inspired with that song & always sung that during freedom struggle. This was national anthem before freedom struggle & respect that till today by all nationalists. Kerala Govt of Congress & Left banned that song from singing in school. Our TMC government of Bengal has not uttered a single word against that move. Protest is a distant word. Will you still tolerate this humiliation agaist BankimChandra Chattopadhyay?

Come on Bengal.Get prepared to remove all cousin brothers Left,Congress,TMC, so that our children can respect our national heroes.

Swami Vivekananda and Youth of Bengal

Coming from a middle class Hindu family from Burdwan we too had a Thakur Ghar where there were many idols which my family worshipped. Out of the idols there were Swami ji along with Ramakrishna, Sharda ma along with Shiv, Durga, Lakshmi, Sawarsati and other idols. As a kid I started worshipping Swami ji as I worshipped other idols and hoped that Swami ji can also rescue me from danger or help me during bad times and can do “Chamatkar” if I pray properly. Before the exam or before the results my prayer used to get longer to all the idols including that of Swami ji. I did know that he delivered a lecture about Hinduism in America many years back – that’s all.

Till the time I was in Bengal that is before I came to Delhi for joining a company after completing my engineering from BE College I never get the opportunity or had any urge to know Swami ji more. I always used to bow my head and asked for some favour while I came across some statue of him as common Bengali youth would do in front of any Kali , Durga or Shiv temple.   One evening while I was watching TV in the company provided accommodation in Delhi’s Sarita Vihar and eagerly waiting for the food that our cook would bring from the kitchen I came across some writing with Swami ji’s name on an old calendar which was hanging on the wooden door of the Kithen. I might have also seen that calendar and those writings earlier but never concentrated on it. As the wait for the food was little longer that evening I read those writing minutely:  "Truth, purity, and unselfishness wherever these are present, there is no power below or above the sun to crush the possessor thereof. Equipped with these, one individual is able to face the whole universe in opposition." - Swami Vivekananda.

It took few days for me to fully understand Swami ji’s message and once I understood it fully I was clear why people across India worship Swami ji. I then started trying to know more about Swami ji and came across the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda at Howrah Railway station Rama Krishna Mission bookstore and bought that.

During my near about two decades stay in Delhi I came across many people who are not from Bengal but know more about Swami ji rather than any common Bengali gentleman and they are all well established in different aspects of life. They all have very high regards for Swami ji. I was wondering why we the people of Bengal did not try to understand Swami ji in depth. One of the reasons could be the influence of communists who ruled and ruined my home state for decades. I also came across many communists who ridicule Swami ji and this is because the communists always feared that if Bengali youth start knowing Swami ji in true sense then their imported idea of socialism would have no takers in Bengal. The next regime is just following the communists but they are also trying to have didi’s idol added in the common Bengali family’s Thakur Ghar.

Bengali youth must know Swami ji more as his thought has transformed many people including that of Great Netaji. During the 2014 LS election campaign Modi ji had given interviews to many news channels and you could see Swami ji’s statue in all those interviews. After the election result while some TV was showing the family home of Modi ji I also located Swami ji’s statue there. I become very pleased and got the cue how Modi ji have implemented Swami ji’s teachings of Truth, purity, and unselfishness to win the heart of India against all odds.

His teachings should be included in our school and college curriculum so that the young generation know more about Swami ji which would help them to understand what is good and what is bad for them and for the country and work towards the inclusive development of the people of the society. Particularly Bengal does not need to import or invent any new idea rather we can look within and bring the change thru the path based on the vision and teachings of Swami ji.  Above all Swami ji was a Humanist per excellence.

We are suffering..Report of Kasba

On 23rd July 2014, at about 1:30 AM some drunken goons of TMC vandalized and completely demolished a BJP make­shift Party office at Panchannagram, Ward No 108, Kasba Bidhansabha (Assembly Constituency) area under Dakshin Kolkata Lok Sabha Kendra (Parliamentary Constituency). The modus operandi is similar to what has happened in several incidents of vandalism on BJP party offices in the past few months. Goons enjoying patronage of Local TMC leaders usually drink in the late nights and then attack their targets after midnight. 

 

At a time when BJP is growing by leaps and bounds in West Bengal where it was till recently considered a non entity, the attacks have become more frequent. Few days ago about 150 local people had joined BJP from Forward Bloc, a Left Front partner. The attack on BJP party office is believed to be a fallout of the recent movement of Forward Bloc members to BJP, which did not go down well with the TMC leadership. The political landscape of Bengal has changed drastically in the last few months. Several factors like pre­­poll NaMo wave, followed by a BJP win, formation of #ModiSarkar and recent manifold rise of BJP vote share in Bengal have contributed to this effect. BJP is being seen as the main opposition party in West Bengal. Local people allege that the area is under the grip of goons associated with several construction syndicates operating in the area under the patronage of local MLA Javed Khan. Several police complaints have been futile and police under TMC Government hardly takes any action.

With atrocities on BJP workers growing by the day, the youth wing of BJP (BJYM) had called for a “Rasta Roko” on 24th July. On 24th July 2014, BJP & BJYM organized a Rasta Roko andolan, at Ruby Chowk, on EM bypass in protest of the attack on BJP party office at ward No 108, Kasba Bidhansabha area under Dakshin Kolkata Lok Sabha Kendra. Yesterday BJP party office was completely vandalized and razed to the ground by TMC goons. BJP local representatives of ward no 108, Barun Karmakar & others had filed an FIR / GD and given an ultimatum to police to arrest the culprits within 24 hours. Police has failed to nab the accused who are freely roaming in the area. 

It is a known fact that TMC goons enjoy the patronage of ruling TMC party due to which they are not arrested. BJP was forced to take this action, due to police inaction. Several BJYM leaders including BJYM state president Sri Amitava Roy and activists courted arrest and were taken to Kasba Police station. Sri Dilip Mitra, Vice President Dakshin Kolkata District was also present and helped in mobilizing and inspiring BJP Karyakarta. Sri Pradeep Singh of BJYM said “Mamata government should reign in the criminals and goons in their party.” Sri Saroj Singh an active BJP karyakarta and president of Ward No 107 also raised slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “TMC Hatao Bangla Bachao”. 

Sri Arnab Mitra, of Samvad Cell, BJP was present at the venue and took active participation in the Rasta Roko, abhiyan, raising slogans against Mamata Banerjee’s TMC Government and police inaction in the incident. There was heavy Police bandobast and BJP ­ BJYM activists were arrested and taken to Kasba Police station. The irony is; the number of police personnel and vehicles that were pressed into action by TMC Government to arrest protesting BJP cadre could have been used in maintaining law and order in the area by arresting the actual criminals and rowdy elements.
