Rule Ends"
Two days back India celebrated
69th Independence Day, flags hoisted and patriotic songs sung, but many went to
work as "the MNC they work for does not follow the Indian holidays",
neither India’s Independence day nor the Republic Day".
In Chennai, a MNC was sued for
this dumping mercury and polluting environment and subsequently penalised.
However, most of the other states don’t bother.
Few MNC pay double salary (per
day rate) and for rest do not even bother. Even leave granted are entirely dependent
on how happy you have kept your manager. There are many MNCs which have weekly
off-days on Saturdays and Sundays, but they make their employee attend office
on Saturdays.
Even today many MNC’s holiday
list are as per the Holiday of the country where the parent company is located.
Does India celebrate Boxing Day? Well you have a Holiday!! And mind it you do not
have an option here. Many MNCs which have their parent company located in West
Asia extend weekly off-days on Fridays & Saturdays, but Sundays are full
working days for their employee in India.
In reality even today we are
slaves and we will remain slaves for the MNCs which are running after money,
why shouldn’t they listen to their employees and respect the country where they
operate?
Well, many will pursue that in
the era of globalisation these things are inevitable, many will cite example of working hours of call-centres which are mostly at night. We also agree with
them, but the Foreign Direct Investors who are operating in India and those who are
coming to India to take advantage of the emerging economy of India, should
also respect India and its holidays, especially Independence Day and Republic
Day.
